If you are in significant pain or something has happened suddenly to a tooth, call the practice rather than waiting to see whether it settles. Describing the situation over the phone lets us advise you quickly.

When to Seek Emergency Medical Care
Some situations need urgent medical attention rather than a dental appointment. Seek emergency medical care immediately if you have facial swelling that is spreading rapidly, swelling affecting your eye or your breathing, difficulty swallowing, uncontrolled bleeding, or a serious injury to the head or jaw.
What To Do Before You Are Seen
These are general first steps only - they are not a substitute for being examined. Call the practice as well.
Broken or chipped tooth
Keep any fragments, rinse gently with warm water and avoid chewing on that side until the tooth has been assessed.
Lost filling or crown
Keep the crown if you still have it, keep the area clean and avoid biting on the tooth until it can be examined.
Severe toothache or swelling
Call the practice and describe your symptoms so we can advise you. Swelling should always be treated as urgent.

Same-day where possible
Emergency appointments are accommodated where possible. Calling early in the day gives us the best chance of fitting you in.
New patients welcome
You do not need to be an existing patient of the practice to call us with an emergency.
Outside opening hours
The practice is open Monday to Thursday. If a situation is severe outside those hours, seek urgent medical care and contact us when we next open.
After the Emergency
Once the immediate problem is under control, we talk about what caused it and what - if anything - should be done next. That might mean restoring a damaged tooth with a crown, discussing tooth replacement, or simply returning to routine general dental care so problems are picked up earlier in future.
